Belron® takes on the London Triathlon
Great things happen when incredible people get together. Each year Belron® employees take part in the London Triathlon to raise much-needed money for MaAfrika Tikkun. It's an event that attracts keen Belron® sportspeople (and amateurs alike!) from all over the world.
The 2009 event was the eighth year Belron® has taken part, with over 600 Belron® employees from 18 countries coming together to form our team. All the hard work and training paid off, as people cheered, laughed and panted their way through the swimming, cycling and running events. Prizes were awarded at a Belron® awards ceremony later in the day, where those business units that had gone above-and-beyond in their fundraising efforts were recognised and rewarded.
The money we raise through the London Triathlon goes to MaAfrika Tikkun, a South African charity that provides vital care and support to orphans and vulnerable children in Orange Farm, Diepsloot and Alexandra. More than 800,000 families live in these communities, which are plagued with poverty, unemployment, violence and a lack of infrastructure. MaAfrika Tikkun works to develop the foundations necessary for their long-term wellbeing – passing on the skills needed to succeed in life.
With the continued support of Belron®, MaAfrika Tikkun has created sustainable community centres that provide a wide range of programmes for children and their families, including after-school activities, feeding programmes, life skills training and emergency relief.
Belron® is extremely proud to partner with such a worthwhile charity, and is dedicated to helping these communities free themselves of poverty and disease.
