Goodwill Award for Afrika Tikkun
27 February 2015
Earlier this month our global charity partner, Afrika Tikkun was recognised by the FW de Klerk Foundation, receiving the Goodwill Award 2015.
This award which was set up by the Foundation in 2010, recognises individuals and organisations that have made exceptional contributions to the promotion of goodwill between South Africans.
The award was given to Afrika Tikkun in recognition of its wide range of programmes for vulnerable children and youth in South Africa. There was a particular focus on the Cradle to Career model, where the charity invests in the development of disadvantaged children from early infancy, through young adulthood and into the world of work. Part of this model is the Job Readiness programme which Belron is helping to support through the 2014 triathlon fundraising.
“Afrika Tikkun has materially improved the lives and prospects of tens of thousands of young people. In so doing, it has also developed an enormous reservoir of goodwill between South Africans from different communities,” said De Klerk on presenting the award.
Marc Lubner, CEO Afrika Tikkun commented, “We are absolutely honoured to receive this award. It is a tribute both to the 20,000 children and youth and their families that we work with on a daily basis in an effort to see them through childhood to productive adulthood, as well as our incredible team of 600 staff - most of whom are from the communities in which we work.”
