Jörn, Olympic Team Triathlon
“It was 20 July 2007 and I was riding home from work on my motorbike. I don't know exactly what happened, but I remember driving into the back of a car and bouncing off the rear window.
“The accident was life altering. It shattered my leg and I narrowly escaped an amputation. I had major surgery to fix the damage and I was in hospital and rehabilitation for seven months.
“That terrible time, when I didn't know if I would ever be able to walk or run again, had a big impact on me. But I was determined to move on. I had my bike adapted, eventually riding along the whole Rhine. I can still only bend my left knee 90 degrees, which hinders me, but all in all, I know I was extremely lucky. And last year I discovered that I can jog again! So, triathlon here I come.”
