Belron® to Commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Commitment Letter Marks the First Step Towards Science-Based Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Targets

4th November 2022

Belron, the global leader in vehicle glass repair, replacement, and recalibration, today announced that it has submitted a Commitment Letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (“SBTi”) to set company-wide near-term and long-term emissions reduction targets. This underscores Belron’s commitment to set science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets consistent with the aims of the Paris Agreement.

The submission of a Commitment Letter is the first step in a three-stage process. In the next phase, Belron will develop emission reduction targets in line with the SBTi’s criteria and recommendations for submission to the SBTi for validation. Following validation, Belron will then publish the approved targets.

The SBTi is a global organisation that enables companies to set carbon emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. A collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the SBTi also provides technical review.

Belron is validating its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets through the SBTi in order to play a full part in the transition to a low-carbon economy. In 2021 Belron agreed term loans which commit Belron to having greenhouse gas reduction targets validated by the SBTi by the end of 2024.

“Doing business responsibly is at the heart of Belron and taking action on emissions is an important part of this,” said Gary Lubner, CEO of Belron. “Over recent years we have focused on reducing our emissions per job and setting overall reduction targets in line with climate science is a natural next step for us. Reducing our emissions is one element of our ESG commitments, and we are also making progress in other areas too – such as sustainable procurement and waste reduction. We look forward to submitting our reduction targets to the SBTi in the near future.”
